Step one: a test that reports the right things
Ask the lab for total arsenic and, where the well is a candidate for adsorptive media, for speciation that reports the oxidized and reduced forms separately. Run pH at the same time, because the performance of activated alumina and several other media depends heavily on it, and run iron, since iron-bearing water changes both the treatment design and the pretreatment needed. Arsenic occurs naturally in the rock of many aquifers and varies enormously between wells a short distance apart, so a neighbor's clean result is not evidence about your own supply.
Step two: decide where treatment belongs
Arsenic is an ingestion concern rather than a skin contact one, so treating only the water you drink and cook with is a defensible, common and much cheaper design. Handling media, waste and long absences
Spent arsenic media holds the arsenic it captured, so it is not ordinary household waste, and disposal should follow your local rules and the manufacturer's instructions rather than the trash can.
