- Confirm the siting requirements. Tankless units need an electrical outlet under or near the sink and enough cabinet wall or floor space for the module. In kitchens without under-sink power, adding an outlet becomes part of the project cost, which is worth knowing before falling for the compact form factor.
- Compare flow, efficiency and noise. Vendors publish daily production capacity, the ratio of purified water to drain water, and increasingly the pump noise. Flow rate at the faucet matters most day to day: filling a stock pot from a slow unit is the complaint that shows up in every honest review.
- Check cartridge design and cost. Most tankless systems use proprietary composite cartridges that combine several stages into one or two quick-change units. That makes replacement genuinely effortless and locks you to the vendor's consumables, so price the cartridges and their schedule before you commit to the box.
Tankless against tank systems, fairly
The tank system's strengths are no electricity, decades of proven design, cheaper standard-size replacement filters and instant delivery from storage. Its weaknesses are the space the tank eats, slower recovery once the tank is drawn down, and the need to sanitize storage over the years. Tankless flips every one of those: compact, fresh on demand, efficient, but powered, pumped and proprietary.
Choose tankless when cabinet space is tight, your household draws a lot of drinking water at once, or you dislike the idea of stored water. Choose a tank when you want the simplest possible machine with the cheapest consumables. - Are tankless systems more efficient with water?

- Do tankless RO systems need professional installation?
