How iron removal gets done right
- Confirm the form and the level. Clear water that stains fixtures orange points to dissolved ferrous iron; tinted or gritty water points to ferric particles; reddish slime in the toilet tank points to iron bacteria. A lab panel confirms which you have and at what concentration, along with the pH that decides which media will work.
- Choose the treatment for that form. Air-injection and oxidizing-media filters convert dissolved iron to particles and trap them, handling most well-water iron in one tank. Sediment filtration catches ferric particles that already exist. Iron bacteria need disinfection of the well itself before any filter will hold.
- Place it ahead of everything else. The iron filter goes first in the treatment train, after the pressure tank, so downstream equipment sees iron-free water. Softeners, carbon filters, and RO membranes all foul on iron, which makes the iron stage the bodyguard for every dollar spent behind it.
