Filtering a bath is harder than filtering a shower for a simple mechanical reason: a bath tap delivers a large volume quickly through a large outlet, and filtration needs contact time. That single fact explains why shower filters are common and effective while bath filters are unusual, awkward, and mostly aimed at a different job.
Why inline filtration struggles here
A shower filter treats a modest flow passing a small cartridge, and even then contact time is short. A bath tap runs at several times that rate because nobody wants to wait, and any cartridge small enough to fit at the tap gives the water a fraction of a second in contact with the media. Restricting the flow to improve contact means a bath that takes far longer to fill, which is the compromise most households refuse. That is why there is no true equivalent of the shower filter for a bath.
The formats that exist
Three approaches turn up. Inline units fitted to a handheld shower hose, which work when the bath is filled through the handset rather than the spout, and are effectively shower filters. Ball or pouch style filters hung in the filling water, containing a granular medium such as vitamin C or KDF, which act on the standing water over the fill rather than at a tap. And bath additives, most commonly ascorbic acid, which neutralise chlorine and chloramine chemically in a way no small cartridge can match at that flow.
What they realistically achieve
Chlorine reduction, which for most people is the actual complaint: the smell in the steam and the drying effect on skin. Ascorbic acid in a pouch or as an additive does that well and, importantly, works on chloramine too, which is where carbon based devices fall down. What none of them do is soften water. Hardness is dissolved calcium and magnesium and no bath device removes it, so a bath filter will not stop the tide mark, the scale on the taps or the feeling that soap will not rinse away.
The whole house alternative
If chlorine in the bath is worth solving, it is usually worth solving everywhere, and a point of entry carbon filter removes it from every tap including the bath and the shower with none of the flow compromises. On a chloraminated supply that unit needs catalytic carbon and adequate contact time.
