A bath water filter is harder to arrange than a shower filter, and it is worth knowing why before you buy one. A tub fills fast through a large spout, which leaves almost no contact time for filter media, and most tub spouts have no thread you could mount anything onto. The options that genuinely work are a dechlorinating additive in the tub or a whole-house filter upstream.
Why an inline tub filter rarely works
Filter media need contact time. A shower head passes a modest flow through a cartridge in a steady stream, which gives reduction media a reasonable chance to act. A bathtub spout is sized to fill quickly, so it passes several times that flow, and any cartridge small enough to fit at the spout would both throttle the fill badly and provide too little contact to be effective. On top of that, most tub spouts are slip-fit or threaded onto the stub-out in a way that leaves nowhere to mount a filter housing. That combination is why a genuine equivalent to the shower filter does not really exist for tubs.
Dechlorinating additives and balls
The practical point-of-use option is a chemical dechlorinator added to the filled tub: vitamin C in tablet, powder or dispensing-ball form, which reacts with free chlorine and neutralizes it, and works on chloramine as well. It treats the standing water rather than the flow, which sidesteps the contact time problem entirely. Follow the product's dosing for the tub volume, and give the water a stir before getting in. What it does not do is anything about hardness, metals or sediment, and it obviously does nothing for the water running out of the shower head or the taps elsewhere in the house.
Whole-house carbon is the real answer
If you want chlorine-free water in the bath, the shower, the laundry and every tap, the correct place to treat is where water enters the building. A whole-house carbon system, sized for the household's peak simultaneous flow and fitted after a sediment prefilter, removes chlorine before it ever reaches a fixture. If the complaint is scale rather than chlorine
Plenty of bath complaints are not about chlorine at all. A ring around the tub, soap that will not lather, and a film on the skin after bathing are hardness, not disinfectant, and no filter of any kind addresses them. Hardness is dissolved calcium and magnesium, and only ion exchange softening removes it. Similarly, an orange stain in the tub points to iron and needs an iron filter, while blue-green staining points to acidic water attacking copper pipe and needs a neutralizer. Diagnose the stain or the symptom before buying, because the three problems have three different answers.
