Why tub spouts resist filtering
A shower head unscrews from a threaded arm, which is what makes shower filters easy. A tub spout is either slipped over a copper stub and set with a grub screw or threaded onto a nipple concealed in the wall, and neither arrangement gives you a place to insert a cartridge. That leaves two workable approaches: a hang-in filter that sits in the stream or the water, or an inline cartridge fitted upstream where the tub branch is accessible.
Flow rate is the real limit
A tub fills fast, and contact time with the media is what determines how much chlorine is actually removed. A small cartridge passing a tub fill in a few minutes gives each drop very little contact, so reduction is far lower than the same cartridge would achieve at a trickle. This is why filters marketed for tubs often use copper-zinc alloy media, which act quickly by a redox reaction rather than relying on the slower adsorption that carbon needs.
Baby baths and sensitive skin
The usual reason for the search is a baby's bath or a child with eczema, and chlorine is the usual suspect. A hang-in dechlorinating filter or a vitamin C ball is a reasonable measure for that, provided you accept it is a partial reduction rather than removal. When to treat the line instead
If tub water is the concern for more than one bathroom, or the complaint includes staining, scale or smell, the effective place to treat is the incoming line. Whole-house carbon handles chlorine at every fixture with proper contact time, an iron filter stops the orange ring, and a softener stops the film. All three cost more up front and then need nothing at the tub itself, which is the practical advantage over refilling a small cartridge every few weeks.
