Contact time is the part people skip
Injecting a chemical does not complete a reaction. Disinfection needs the disinfectant in contact with the water for a defined period, and oxidation needs time for iron and sulfur to convert into filterable particles. That time is supplied by a retention tank sized against the flow rate, and undersizing it is the most common design fault in these installations. Why wells rather than city supplies
Municipal water arrives already disinfected and pH adjusted, so injection is a private supply technique. An injection system is the least passive equipment in a home water treatment plan. The solution tank has to be refilled and mixed consistently, since a weak batch under doses silently and a strong one over doses. Pump heads, check valves and the injection quill need periodic cleaning because scale and precipitated metals foul them. The dose must be verified with a test rather than assumed, weekly at first and then at a settled interval.
