Households frequently install a softener, watch the kettle scale disappear and the shower glass spotting continue, and assume the softener is broken. It is not. It is doing its job on a different problem to the one that is still visible.
What actually reduces silica
Reverse osmosis is the practical residential answer, since a membrane rejects dissolved silica along with most other dissolved solids. Distillation does the same by a different route. Strong base anion exchange and deionizing resins will take the ionized fraction and are used in polishing applications. Testing and living with it
Silica is not on a standard homeowner panel, so it has to be requested by name from a lab.
