Reverse osmosis removes lead alongside a much wider list of dissolved contaminants, which matters if your test also flagged nitrate, arsenic or PFAS. The tradeoffs are a drain connection, a storage tank under the sink, water sent to waste and a slower delivery rate. Match the choice to what your test actually found, not to the longest specification list.

Flush the tap before drinking after any long idle period, since lead concentration rises the longer water sits against the pipe. Use cold water for drinking and cooking, because hot water dissolves lead more readily and a water heater is a poor place to store drinking water.
