The benefit is contaminant specific
Reverse osmosis is a broad-spectrum barrier, but broad is not the same as universal. Systems publish which substances they are certified to reduce and by how much, and those lists are the benefit. If your report is clean apart from a taste complaint, the benefit you are buying is taste. Taste, and what actually drives it
Most households notice taste first. Taste in tap water comes from dissolved minerals, from chlorine or chloramine added at the plant, and sometimes from sulfur compounds. A reverse osmosis system takes on all three, partly through its carbon stages and partly through the membrane, which is why the water at the dedicated faucet tastes noticeably neutral compared with the kitchen tap two feet away.

If you want proof rather than a feeling, take a sample before installation and another from the reverse osmosis faucet a week afterwards, and have them tested for the same list.
