When to look elsewhere
Hair coming out at the root, visible thinning across the scalp, a receding pattern or clumps in the drain are not water problems and should be discussed with a doctor rather than treated with a filter. Thyroid conditions, iron deficiency, medication, stress and hereditary pattern loss are all far more common causes. Where iron is present, an iron filter belongs ahead of the softener, because oxidized iron fouls softener resin. Shower filters remove chlorine rather than hardness, so they do not address this, whatever the packaging suggests.
