Fitting a carbon cartridge to a hose to remove chlorine is a narrow but genuine job, and it is worth being precise about who needs it. Who actually needs dechlorinated water

Fish and aquatic invertebrates are the clear case, since chlorine is directly toxic to them and a pond top up or an aquarium water change with untreated tap water is a real risk. Seedlings and some sensitive houseplants respond to it, though established garden plants and lawns tolerate normal municipal levels without trouble. Home brewing and fermentation care, because chlorine affects flavour and yeast. Beyond those, most garden uses do not need it, and a cartridge fitted for general reassurance is being consumed for nothing.

What a hose cartridge can achieve

Carbon reduces free chlorine quickly, so even the short contact time at hose flow removes a useful proportion.
