The number on the box is the port, not the filter

Oversize it and the water moves too slowly through the media for the filter to load evenly, which mostly wastes money rather than causing harm.

Fitting it without creating new problems

Install after the main shutoff and the pressure regulator, with isolation valves either side and a bypass loop so the house still has water while you change a cartridge. Support the housing on a bracket screwed into a stud or backing board, never on the pipe alone, because a full big-body housing is heavy and will eventually stress the joints. Leave clearance below to swing the sump off, and thread a pressure gauge in ahead of it so you can see a clogged cartridge coming.
