For metals and chemistry, use the preserved bottles exactly as supplied. For lead, do the opposite and take a first draw after the water has stood overnight. Read the report alongside the detection limits, because not detected means below what the method could see rather than absent. Bacteria present means shock chlorinate, retest, and look for the physical route in: casing, cap, grading around the wellhead, or a septic field too close. Should I remove the aerator before taking a bacteria sample?

Yes. Aerators, screens and hose attachments harbour their own growth and can contaminate an otherwise clean sample, so sample from a bare, sanitised outlet.

How long should I run the tap before sampling?

Can I keep the sample in the fridge until the weekend?
