A positive bacteria result calls for shock chlorination of the well followed by UV disinfection installed as the last stage. Most real wells need two or three of these in sequence, in that order, not one universal box.

Cartridge sediment filters and even a softener are within reach of a competent DIYer. A full multi-stage train is harder: stages interact, backwashing tanks need correctly sized drains, and an undersized or mis-sequenced system fails quietly. A water treatment professional will test, size each tank to your flow rate and well yield, and commission the system against a retest.
