An inline water filter for an ice maker is a sealed cartridge spliced into the small supply tube feeding the appliance. It exists because ice concentrates whatever the water carries: chlorine taste, musty odors and fine sediment all become obvious once the water is frozen and then melted into a drink.
How the filter fits into the line
The supply to an ice maker is normally quarter inch tubing running from a saddle valve or a proper shutoff at a cold water pipe.
