Removing them is a job for activated carbon, which works by adsorption on a large internal surface area, an entirely different mechanism that a resin bed does not provide.

Fitting both, in the right order
Sediment filtration first, protecting everything. Then carbon, removing chlorine or chloramine and protecting the resin behind it. Then the softener. Some installations reverse the last two, putting carbon after softening so it polishes the finished water, and that is defensible where resin protection is not the priority, but on chlorinated supplies carbon first is the more common choice. Either way they are two vessels, not one appliance, and any product claiming to do both in a single tank deserves a close look at what media it actually contains.
